IT’S ALL ABOUT YOUTH LEADERSHIP & INNOVATION.
12.04.2016 – 12.07.2016 | CONFERENCE.EAYP.OR.KE
December 4th – 7th, 2016 | THE BOMAS OF KENYA, NAIROBI, KENYA
According to the UN projections on the demographics of youth for the year 2015; the number of young people in the less developed regions is expected to increase by 42% in Africa by the year 2030. This indicates there is an absolute need to empower the current youth, by providing platforms to help increase development in the region thus stabilize the economy as to provide spaces and growth opportunities for the upcoming future generation. It is also true that their education levels, technology development and innovation is expected to be higher and better than their predecessors however this might not be if we do not provide the required platform to harness, promote and encourage the current skills thus by extension contributing to the SDGs.
It is therefore with the recognition of the important role that the youth will and still play in the African region that in November 2007 the East African Youth Parliament (E.A.Y.P) was conceptualized under the auspices of the East Africa Community. E.A.Y.P was formed to help identify debate and lobby for issues in the common identity of the East African Community (E.A.C). It was officially registered in 2012. It also acts as a youth platform to engage more proactively in the policies and activities that affect the youth in particular.
It is against this backdrop that the East African Youth Parliament has partnered with the government, Council of Governors and other stakeholders in making the Conference a success.
